Design a scoreboard graphical user interface (GUI) for a realtime multiplayer hacker competition with only 5 days from design to implementation.
Process & Solution
As the senior developer coded a pre-determined layout, I researched Hollywood-influenced "hacker" imagery and sonar screens for inspiration as we found the imagery would resonate quickly regardless of the audience. I adapted monospaced fonts, grids, lines, transparencies, and some animation to simulate suspense and urgency on the scoreboard. Due to the tight timeline, the developer and I shared progress and performed QA often. As the competition progresses, the GUI tracks the gameplay as red players hack and "take down" services (which turn to grey) while blue players restore breached services (which appear in turquoise). The success of this project led to subsequent partnerships with the client.
